Just a quick reminder about the chapter two Social Studies test on Thursday this week. See the last post for vocabulary. The only new word from today was Great Britain, and the definition can be found on page 30.

Our math test will be on Wednesday. With the long weekend coming up, I think it will be better for the students if we have the test before the break. They should bring home a practice test tomorrow. As always, they can see me for extra help at lunch or after school.

Mrs. Hollmann ( in the class right across the hall) is also running an after school Homework Club from Monday to Thursday if there are students who would prefer a different teacher for the extra help. Please let myself or Mrs. Hollmann know if you are interested in having your child make use of all their free time after school.

Cheers!

LA – Up to chapter 21 in the novel. A few students need to get caught up on their novel units.

MATH – Up to page 27 in the workbook. Ask your child what the rule for this pattern would be:

8, 13, 18, 23,        Start at _____ and add/subtract _____

Ask what the LCM for 3 and 5 would be. Have your child tell you what multiples and factors are.

SOCIAL STUDIES – Almost finished with chapter two. The test will be next Thursday. Study the vocabulary: Founding Peoples, creation story, Aboriginal Peoples, First Nations, Métis, official language, bilingualism, bilingual, colony, colonist, habitant, first language, monarchy, monarch and governor general. It might pay off for them to remember cour de bois…you never know what might pop up on the test.

SCIENCE – Next week we will have a quiz on the Red Cross information. Then we will begin chapter five in their texts.

FRENCH – A few students still need to complete and hand in their School Packages.

PE – We are working on improving our skills in soccer, indoor games and distance running. Participation, effort and fair play always contribute to the letter grade earned each term.

ART – We will be starting a new project next week. Any student not finished their Line design or the Foil art (or Pointillism and Dream job!) will need to complete them as homework.

Interview times have been set…but not in stone. If you need to change your time or double-check your time, please email me this weekend and I will get back to you before Monday. If your time doesn’t work, please suggest a time when you would be available. Dismissal times next week are 1:45 from Monday to Thursday and there is no school Friday.

Please remind/encourage your child to see me at lunch or after school if they need extra help or more time with any assignment or project.

Cheers!

LA – Up to chapter 17 in the novel.

MATH – Up to page 20 in the workbook. In the repeating pattern; BBRRY, ask your child why they know the 15th term of the pattern would have to be a Y and the 16th term would have to be a B.

SOCIAL STUDIES – Continuing chapter two. The  vocabulary so far is: Founding Peoples, creation story, Aboriginal Peoples, First Nations, Métis, official language, bilingualism and bilingual.

SCIENCE – Next week we will continue with the First Aid awareness program.

FRENCH –  I will be collecting their school packages. Please review the vocabulary.

PE – We are working on improving our soccer skills and distance running. Participation, effort and sportsmanship all contribute to the letter grade earned each term.

ART – The Line Design project is to be completed by students on their own time. We are currently working on a Halloween Foil art project.

Your child should be bringing home a form with an interview day and time for the parent-teacher conferences coming up in two weeks. If your time doesn’t work, please return the form with a suggestion for when you would be available. You could also email me at my school  address. If necessary, we could schedule the meeting for a different week.

Please also reply to confirm your interview time. Thanks!

Please remind/encourage your child to see me at lunch or after school if they need extra help or more time with any assignment or project.

Cheers!

However, all students can re-do any of the chapter question assignments in order to improve their grade.

SOCIAL STUDIES – We began a map of Canada.

SCIENCE – We will begin chapter 5 next week. Science tests will be returned Monday as well.

Our new project is called a Line Landscape and uses only paper and black pen.

Just a quick note about upcoming events.

  • We have two tentative skating times at the arena for the afternoons of November 1st and December 13th – both are Fridays. Stay posted (that’s a joke) for a confirmation of those days.
  • Swimming starts in November and yes, we walk to and from the pool. Dress for the weather and don’t forget your swim suit and towel.
  • We had an awesome time at bowling this afternoon. Stay posted… for the pictures of grade 5 students having a ton of fun!

Have a great weekend!

Cheers!
