November 29

Term 1 is officially over! Report cards will be out next week. Students who return the envelope for second term will get a treat.

LA – We have been continuing the novel and are up to chapter 39.

MATH – Students should have their tests, or least, their marks. Many very good scores!

SOCIALS STUDIES – We jumped ahead and began chapter 9. Vocabulary so far: natural resources (living and non-living), exports and imports, (and  “goods”).

SCIENCE – Just beginning chapter 6. Vocab so far: skeletal system and bones.

FRENCH – New package next week. Re-quizzes will also be handed back.

PE – Beginning badminton next week!

ART – Grid names ore overdue. Pastel art is current project but we will start something new next week – Christmas cards.

LA – Up to chapter 33 in the novel.

MATH – Up to page 67 in the workbook. Ask your child to estimate 11 x 21 or 9 x 48.

SOCIAL STUDIES – Chapter 3 TEST will be on November 20th. Vocab so far: immigrants, immigration, emigration, push factors, pull factors, homestead, pros, cons, American Revolution, Loyalists, Underground Railroad, slaves, plantations and abolish. We have a few more words to cover on Monday and the test will be Wednesday. STUDY!

SCIENCE – Our test was today and will be returned Tuesday.

FRENCH –  A few “Dans mon pupitre il y a” are still overdue.

PE – We are working on improving our basketball skills. Participation, effort and sportsmanship all contribute to the letter grade earned each term.

ART – Grid Names is the new project. Any previous projects not completed are now homework.

Swimming again this week on Tuesday the 19th then we skip until the last lesson on Thursday the 28th. Hopefully all the kids brought home their suits and towels for a wash. Phew!

Identity Day projects will be displayed in school on Friday, November 22. Please encourage your child to work on their topic.

Please remind/encourage your child to see me at lunch or after school if they need extra help or more time with any assignment or project.

A big reminder that we are swimming tomorrow!

The chapter 5 test in science is on Thursday. Your child should have this info in their planner. We are not quite finished the chapter, but here is a link and instructions to a review game of jeopardy on the interent.

3. Click on one of the dates under “notes” e.g. Apr2012

4. Click on “Click here to search by game # or email”

LA – Just beginning Part Two of the novel.

MATH – We had a quiz today on place value as well as adding and subtracting.

SOCIAL STUDIES – Chapter 3 TEST will be on November 19 or 20th. Vocab so far: immigrants, immigration, emigration, push factors, pull factors, homestead, pros, cons, American Revolution, Loyalists, Underground Railroad, slaves, plantations and abolish.

SCIENCE – Chapter 5 TEST next week on Thursday, November 14. Vocabulary so far: circulatory system, heart, pulse and blood vessels (arteries, veins, capillaries), blood, plasma, blood cells, membrane, as well as worksheet 5.1 and 5.2 and a diagram from p. 107 of the text.

FRENCH –  Still a few overdue Halloween packages. Ask your child. Check their planner. If they did not bring it home, chances are they have overdue work. Please email if you would like to double-check. I will be collecting their “Dans mon pupitre il y a”  next week.

Swimming starts Tuesday next week! Swimsuits, towels and appropriate clothing required for the walk to and from the pool.

Your child should have brought back a sheet about the upcoming Identity Day. It is a project all about something that your child really likes, enjoys or loves. The format is wide open. Poster boards, costumes, movie clips, sculptures … basically they can present/display just about anything! This project is to be completed at home and will be displayed in school on Friday, November 22. Please encourage your child to pick a topic for their project.

Please remind/encourage your child to see me at lunch or after school if they need extra help or more time with any assignment or project.

A few students need to get caught up before the end of the first term. Please ask your child if they have overdue work. I am available most days at lunch and after school. Mrs. Hollmann runs a homework club at lunch and offers extra help after school from Monday to Thursday. There is no shortage of opportunities for students to get extra time or help on their assignments!

LA – The students working on the classroom novel are creating their own pop quiz from chapters 23-26.

MATH – Working on place value. Homework for today was from page 43-45 in the workbook.

SOCIAL STUDIES – Continuing chapter three. Review the new vocabulary for the chapter test. If they know their vocab they will do well on the test. Vocab so far: immigrants, immigration, emigration, push factors, pull factors, homestead, pros, cons, American Revolution and Loyalists.

Ask your child what that means.
