December 20

Thank you to all parents and students who were able to bring in gifts for our classroom Secret Santa. Also thank you very much for the extra treats for the class and gifts for myself. I feel very spoiled. We won’t need dessert tonight!

A reminder about the music concert tomorrow at 7pm. Please have your child arrive a little earlier. That will give you time to check out the baskets being raffled off and choose a good seat. The gym fills up fast!

Cheers!

December 9

Happy December!

LA – We are up to chapter 42. The assignment from today was to write chapter summaries for each of the last three chapters.

MATH – Please give your child a few long division questions. And please help them memorize their times tables! We went on a great academic internet site called Khan Academy today and watched an instructional video on how to long divide. It’s a great site for practice as well. Check it out! Give your child a long division question to show you they know how.

SOCIALS STUDIES – Our chapter 9 test is next Tuesday, December 17th. Vocabulary so far: natural resources (living and non-living), exports and imports, (and “goods”), energy resources, smog, endangered species, barter, brigade, prospectors and Cariboo. Ask your child why competition for furs would help Aboriginal trappers get a better deal (e.g. supply and demand).

SCIENCE – Our chapter 6 test will be Thursday, December 19th. Vocabulary so far: skeletal system, bones, cartilage and ligaments. The diagram on page 123 is a good one.

FRENCH – Working on Christmas packages. We have a quiz this Wednesday on the vocab from their package.

PE – Badminton!

ART – Grid names are very overdue! Pastel art and Christmas cards are the current projects.

The band concert is this Thursday. Check the newsletter for times. We are still looking for donations for our band fundraiser basket. The theme is Christmas. Candy, cookies, ornaments, holiday videos etc. If you are able to donate, please bring in ASAP. The baskets will be displayed in the office next week.

Cheers!

December 5

Hello!

If parents could please pass this on to other parents you happen to talk to or Facebook etc.–no skating tomorrow. We were trying to make it happen as next week is also not going to happen. Oh well. We have more skating time booked next year.

And a reminder that tomorrow at 1:50 is our Recognition Assembly for first term honour and merit students if you are able to make it.

On an academic note, we had a quiz on long division today. Tell your child not to worry if they had difficulty. We will be spending much more time on this topic. The multi-step process can be tricky until you “get it.” We, as a class, could use more practice.

Cheers!

Mr. H.
