We can all take a lesson from the women’s hockey team when it come to effort and giving it everything you’ve got. Go Canada!

February 5

A reminder that we are going skating this Friday afternoon. We walk to the arena so warm clothing is a must!

We have a math test on money tomorrow.

Also, next week is CE Barry’s annual carnival. Part of the proceeds from the carnival go to our sister school in the Dominican Republic,  Ecole Ebebezer. My game is “The Cake Walk,” and each year I ask for cakes to be donated. If you are able, please let me know. You can bring them in next Thursday with your child or just before the carnival starts at 5pm. Check out the school newsletter for more info.OLYMPICS countdown

January 31

LA – We  will be beginning a new novel next week.

MATH – Quiz today on the money unit. Ask your child to make $22. 46 with the fewest bills and coins possible. Ask them what 4 toonies, 3 loonies 2 quarters, a dime, 2 nickels and 3 pennies would equal.

About how much (ESTIMATE!) $18.78 + $22.06 would be. Now ask them to make up a real life problem with those amounts.

SOCIALS STUDIES – Chapter 8. Sorry, their homework was to watch TV! We are studying different types of propaganda in media and advertising. They will be writing, directing and starring in their own commercials soon.

SCIENCE – Chapter 7 test was Thursday and will be returned next week.

FRENCH – New unit next week.

PE – Volleyball!

ART – New project next week.

The class had a conversation about the importance of manners. There have been times when a simple please or thank you has gone missing. It’s such a small thing, but it says a great deal. This is a great class with wonderful students and I think we all needed a reminder about the importance of treating each other with appreciation and respect.

Congratulations to grade 5 Student’s of the Month for January, Josh Tuivai from division 5 and Karen Hana Alla from division 6.SOM January

Karen showed great determination this month to stay caught up on all her assignments! Well done!

February’s Student of the Month focus is helpfulness.

Less than one full week until the Winter Olympics!Olympic Countdown!

Have a great weekend!
