LA  – We are up to chapters 15/16 with pictures and summary sentences.

MATH – We are working on adding with carrying and subtracting with borrowing. Give your child a few questions that involve these skills.E.g.

1093 – 295

We are also looking at the fact family. The quicker they are with facts like these the easier math will be for them. E.g.

5 + 4 = __          4 + 5 = __          __ – 5 = 4          __ – 4 = 5

9 + __ = 15        __ + 9 = 15        15 – 9 = __        15 – __ = 9

A good site for instructional videos and practice on almost any math topic is khanacademy.org.

SOCIAL STUDIES – Beginning chapter three.

SCIENCE – Continuing chapter 6. Vocabulary so far: Skeletal system, skull, spinal column, ribs, arms & legs, joint, ligaments, cartilage, and muscles (2 kinds – voluntary and involuntary)

FRENCH – No new homework

PE – Indoor games. Student grades are based on participation, effort, improvement and sportsmanship/fair play.

ART – Locker art is the current project.

LA  – Novel UnitAsk your child if they are up to chapters 13/14 with summaries and coloured pictures.

MATH – We had a quiz today. It will be returned tomorrow. It was based on the workbook up to page 46.

Ask your child to complete the following: (these are new ones!)

SOCIAL STUDIES – Chapter two TEST is Wednesday, November 26.

We began a review crossword today to help the students prepare for the test. It is due Tuesday when we will go over it in class.

Vocabulary: Founding peoples, 3 Founding peoples of Canada, creation story, Bering Strait Land/Ice Bridge (see map p. 19), Aboriginal peoples, First Nations, Métis, official language, bilingualism, colony, colonist, habitant and first language, monarchy, governor general and Great Britain. Re-read the chapter, study the notes to prepare for the test. If a student wants extra help preparing, I am available at lunch and after school.

FRENCH – School booklet is now overdue. The “Dans mon pupitre il y a …” instructional booklet is what most students are finishing up.

MATH – We are up to page 40 in the workbook. Ask your child to read the number; 48 472. Then ask them to write that number in expanded form four different ways.

What digit is in the tens place value?

What is the value of the underlined digit?

SOCIAL STUDIES – Continuing chapter two.

SCIENCE – Chapter test on Friday, Nov. 14! We will finish the chapter Monday and review Wednesday. Vocabulary so far: circulatory system, heart, blood, blood vessels (arteries, veins, capillaries), pulse, plasma, blood cells (white, red, platelets) membrane, excretory system, kidneys and bladder. Please review the worksheets and the questions from Check Your Understanding throughout the chapter.

FRENCH – School package quiz Wednesday, Nov. 12! Ask your child to translate “un pupitre,” and “une tableau.”
