Teaching is a weird profession. Every year you spend 10 months in close quarters with a 20+ kids of varying abilities and coming from diverse backgrounds. You try to build a climate of respect, safety, fun and, hopefully, one that is conducive to learning for everyone. Then, one day, June arrives and it’s all over. The kids go home. And in September you do it all over again. It’s a bit Sisyphusian (is that a word?)
Every class is different, special and unique, with its own challenges and rewards but this class seemed to stand out. These students were especially respectful, caring, sometimes zany and just a lot of fun to be around. I will think of them often and I will definitely look back on this year with many fond memories and much laughter.
To the parents: thank you for your support, your kind words and for your generosity.
To the students: I will miss you. Have a great summer. Keep on smiling! See you next year.
