Hello!

Just a reminder that on Friday we take the bus to the Tashme museum at Sunshine Valley for the unveiling of the 75th anniversary of the Japanese internment at Tashme.  Each student has a form that needs to be signed, please!

It should be a very interesting, informative and moving ceremony.

Students should dress for the weather as we will be outside for part of the day.

Also, on Thursday, we walk to the lodge at the hospital for Candy Bingo with the seniors.  Please dress for the weather!

Don’t forget to smile!

Friday, October 13

LA – We started a novel called, “The Whipping Boy.”  Lots of interesting vocabulary, such as: defiantly, roused, gloat, obliged and dreadful.  Ask your child if they remember what each word (and more) mean.

MATH – We had an addition and subtraction quiz today.  The students will know their scores on Monday.

SCIENCE – We’ll begin chapter 5 next week.

SOCIALS – Chapter one test was today and students will know their scores on Monday.

FRENCH – We began a new unit on “school” with vocabulary such as stylo, crayon, gomme, ordinateur, bibliotéque and chaise.  Can your child remember what they mean?

PE – Participation, effort, fair play and leadership all contribute to the letter grade they will earn in PE.

ART – Foil art will be finished off on Wednesday.  All other art projects are overdue and need too be completed as homework.

We skate on Monday after lunch.  If your child has their own skates and helmet they can bring them. if not, the school and arena will provide skates and helmets at no cost.  I reccommend that students also bring mitts or gloves.  Also, we walk to the arena -rain or shine- so dress for the weather, please!

Scholastic Book fair is next week from Monday to Thursday.

Individual Picture Day is on Wednesday the 18th.

Friday, October 6

LA – We started a novel called, “The Whipping Boy.”  Part of many assignments require full-sentence answers to questions from the novel.

Example.  Q. Who is the main character of the novel?

A. Jemmy is the main character of the novel.

Not just Jemmy, or he is, or him.  A full-sentence answer lets the reader know what the question was.

MATH – Subtraction with borrowing.  Can your child solve 3,764 – 1, 568?  Even harder try; 3005 – 879.

SCIENCE – Chapter 4 test scores will be given back on Tuesday.  Students will write their scores in their planners.  Tests will stay here.

SOCIALS – We will finish off chapter one on Tuesday and the quiz is on Friday.  Know the vocabulary and the regions of Canada.

FRENCH – A new unit starts on Wednesday.

PE – Participation, effort, fair play and leadership all contribute to the letter grade they will earn in PE.

ART – Foil art will be finished off on Wednesday.  All other art projects are overdue and need too be completed as homework.

Next week is our parent-teacher conferences.  Please call the office to set up appointment times for Wed or Thurs from 5 – 7:30pm.

Have a great, long, Thanksgiving Weekend! Cheers!
