Friday, April 5

LA We will start a novel next week.

MATH We began a fraction unit. The students should be able to solve fractions such as 3/4 – 1/5 and 3/16 + 2/4. Ask them what the bottom number in a fraction is called and what it means. The top number? Can they give a real life example for 1/4? What does 7/7 mean?

SOCIALS For socials and science we are working on assembling and programming the Lego Mindstorm Ev3 robots.

SCIENCE – 

FRENCH Quiz on the Easter booklet on Wednesday. Booklet due as well.

PE If wet, indoor games and when dry we will be heading outside for a unit on track and field.

ART Line landscape is the new project. The locker art is now overdue and needs to be completed on their own time.

Tuesday is Green Shirt day in support of the Humbolt Broncos. Thursday is our field trip to Nestle Waters as a follow up to the river workshop we did in the fall. No dangly jewelry and no open-toed shoes please!

I hope everyone has a fun, safe relaxing two weeks off! If students get bored with all that spare time they could always practice their time tables!!!

Congratulations to March Student of the Month, Jaxson, for using his time wisely!

Also congratulations to Nyah for being elected class Prime Minister. Thanks for the yummy treats, Nyah!

LA –We will focus more on keyboarding and proofreading in the third term.

MATH  – Money unit test next week. How much is one toonie, three $5 bills, one quarter, three dimes and a twenty dollar bill?

SOCIALS – Class elections next week! Who will be our class Prime Minister???

SCIENCE – Looking at the living and non-living natural resources of British Columbia. Is water a living or non-living resource? Trees? Sunlight?

FRENCH – Ask your child what hello, thank you, good bye are in French. Can they translate: J’ai dix ans.

PE – More indoor games until the weather improves. Hopefully spring has sprung!

ART –Locker art is the current project.

We have more swimming lessons next Tuesday and Thursday. Report cards come out on Thursday. Last day before the break is Friday, March 15.

Friday, February 22

LA – Still working on meeting expectations for 5-sentence paragraphs. Ask your child how to write one! Ask them how they could exceed the expectations for a 5-sentence paragraph.

MATH – We began the unit on money. Give your child a handful of change and ask them to count it up! What 6 coins make $2.05?

SOCIALS – Chapter 5 test on government is on Thursday next week!

SCIENCE – We’ll begin a new unit after next week.

FRENCH – Basic greetings and information such as bonjour, merci and j’ai dix ans.

PE –Doubles badminton.

ART –Grid name is now overdue. The new project is locker art.

Swimming lesson start next week! Every Tuesday and Thursday for the next three weeks. Please send swim suits and towels with a bag for their wet return. 

Congratulations to Violet for her excellent performance in Coquihalla Idol and to Nyah for her fantastic 2nd place finish!

LA – Started keyboarding on the laptops. If you have a computer at home and have access to the internet, type in the url below

and the kids can log on to their school account and practice at home. They should all know their account user name and password.

MATH – We had a test on long division and multiplication today. The students will know their scores next week.

SOCIALS – Just began chapter 5 on government. At the end of the chapter will be the student elections for class Prime Minister!

SCIENCE – Chapter 8 test will be returned next week.

FRENCH – A few more students need to present their conversational squash booklets

PE – Badminton round robin singles tournament. Doubles tourney next!

ART – Symmetry Pie project is on display in the hall. Some very cool designs! Grid names is the current project.

Next week is Random Acts of Kindness! We’ll have time to trade Valentines sometime Thursday. A class list will be available next week.

Friday, Feb. 1

LA – Working on rhyming poems. Ask your child to bring home their favourite and read it to you. It will go into a class book of poetry. Some really good work!

MATH – We’ve had lots of review and practice sheets on long division and a quiz today. Next week is a review of multiplication and then there will be a TEST on long division and multiplication next week. See link below for instructions on 2-digit multiplication.

SOCIALS – Chapter 3 test was today and will be returned next week.

FRENCH – Presenting squash booklets about ourselves to the class next week.

PE – Badminton. As with anything, practice equals improvement.

ART – New project next week.

Just a heads up…

We have a chapter 3 social studies test on Friday this week and a chapter 8 science test next week. 

There will also be a few quizzes this week in math on long division and multiplication leading up to a test on these topics next week.

Friday this week is Story Book Character day. Dress up as your favourite story book character!

January 20

LA – We have been working on different kinds of poetry. Haiku, limericks, acrostic poems and more recently we began writing rhyming poems. Ask your child for a sample of their work so far!

SCIENCE – Chapter 8 is all about natural resources. Ask your child to review their vocabulary so far.

SOCIAL STUDIES – Chapter 3 in the text.

FRENCH – Quizzes were returned Thursday. Ask your child how they scored. New unit next week.

PE – Badminton.
