LA – Ask your child how they did on their spelling test today.

MATH – Our quiz was today. They will have their scores next week.

SCIENCE – Unit 4 test on Wednesday next week. It was originally going to be Tuesday, but I wanted to give them one class for review so it is bumped back one day. Know all the vocabulary for the digestive and respiratory systems. They have notes in their binders but we also made flashcards (see file below) to study.

Ask your child how the digestive and respiratory systems work together.

SOCIAL STUDIES – We finished chapter one. Study the notes we made for the chapter vocabulary: ancestors, diversity, relief map, national anthem, native land, 5-Regions of Canada map, culture, cultural origin, heritage, census, survey, Group of Seven and Emily Carr. Also know the continents and oceans of the world. We just need to cover the provinces and territories in Canada before their chapter one test.

FRENCH – School booklet. Ask your child what pupitre, gomme, chaise, brosse and professeur are in English.

LA – Unit 3 spelling test tomorrow. Word search/crossword page due for homework.

MATH – Quiz tomorrow on expanded form and addition.

SCIENCE – Chapter four test on Tuesday, October 3. Know the vocabulary, be able to explain how the digestive system and respiratory system work, the organs involved, and how each system works together.

SOCIAL STUDIES – Chapter one test will be a week after the science test. Know the vocabulary, (including the 5-regions map of Canada), the continents and oceans, and the Canadian provinces and territories.

FRENCH – School booklet. Ask your child what crayon, stylo, gomme, livre and cahier are in English.

ART – Candy art is the current project.

PE – The students are evaluated on their participation, effort, sportsmanship, safe play and leadership. Our daily 10 minutes of morning fitness also counts towards their PE mark.

LA – We are working on reading comprehension. Reading each day is excellent for kids at this age. Please read at home as well.
MATH – Place value. In the number 567,937, which digit is in the ten thousands place value? Also, can your child read the number?

SOCIAL STUDIES – Continents and oceans of the world. Most students have completed their map. There will be a quiz eventually.

SCIENCE – Chapter four in the text book on digestion. Ask your child what the smallest parts of your body are called. Can they tell steps in the digestive process?

FRENCH – Quiz next Friday on numbers to 12 and colours.

ART – Dream Job.

PE – Indoor games and soccer.

Terry Fox run next Friday afternoon. We run rain or shine so dress for the weather.

We had Skor bars as a treat today. Here is the recipe if your child was interested.

We pretty much have our supplies set up and we began learning today!

French – Ask your child the French word for red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, black, white, brown, grey and pink. Can they also come up with light blue or dark green?

Social Studies – Chapter one. Vocabulary terms: ancestors and diversity. The students are supposed to ask why their ancestors came to Canada/BC/Hope.

A couple students have name tags to finish off for Monday.

Welcome to grade five! It is my pleasure to be your child’s teacher this year.

I will post test notifications, current homework, pictures and other information on this site every week or so to keep you up to date. The students will all receive an agenda tomorrow to help keep track of assignments and important dates.

Please help your child learn their timetables. Reading with them and and encouraging them to read each day will also be very beneficial.

Ask your child about what is in their everyday pencil case and about the kindness video we watched today!
