LA – Our first group performed their skit from the novel, The Whipping Boy, and did a super job! The other groups will need to present before the winter break.

MATH – We are starting division and are learning about the fact family. Ask you child what the other three facts are for 8 x 3 = 24 (3 x 8 = 24, 24 ÷ 8 = 3, 24 ÷ 3 = 8).

If there were 35 students on five teams, how many students would be on each team?

If there were 30 desks with six desks in each row, how many rows would there be?

If there were 9 students and each student was given 3 candies for good behaviour, how many candies were given out?

SCIENCE – Tuesday next week is the chapter 6 test. Review the skeletal and muscular systems. Also review skin and what is does for your body. And look at how these systems work together and how they work with the other systems we have studied so far this year. Students have a crossword as homework for Monday.

SOCIAL STUDIES – Immigration to Canada. Test will be late next week or the last school week of December.

FRENCH РUnfortunately, it looks like we will also have a French test on Christmas and winter vocabulary before the break. Ask your child to translate: P̬re N̦el, bonhomme de neige, guirlande, jouets, chocolat chaud and tuque.

Have a great weekend! Cheers!

LA – Many students are choosing to act out a scene from our novel as the final project. Students with their lines memorized will earn a better mark. Adding an accent and staying in character could help them earn an extending grade.

MATH – 2 digit multiplication. PLEASE encourage your child to memorize their timetables. It will speed up their work, they will have less homework and more free time. It really is win win!

SCIENCE – The skeletal and muscular systems. What is the difference between ligaments and tendons? What is the largest bone in the human body? Give two facts about the skull and the ribs.

SOCIAL STUDIES – Why are we studying the American Revolution, the Underground Railroad and the American Civil War? Don’t get the two wars mixed up! Who was fighting in each, why were they fighting, when were they fighting and who won?

FRENCH – Tests will be returned next week.

Earlier this week we walked down to the high school for an introduction to the trades program. Many neat opportunities for students that parents might want to be aware of in the future. One key takeaway for the kids was about what employers are looking for in new employees. Obviously good grades in school are important, but even more important to many employers are people who are kind, honest, considerate, cooperative, hard-working and have good people skills. We can’t always get “A” grades, but we can choose to be “A” people.

Have a great weekend! Cheers!
